Connecting Collavate MCP in ChatGPT
Add Collavate MCP to ChatGPT as a custom MCP server and you’re connected right away. Once connected, you can find and review the approval documents and Decision history stored in Collavate simply by asking ChatGPT in plain language.
For example, if you type “Summarize the purchase request documents approved last week,” ChatGPT finds those documents in Collavate and summarizes them for you. Without opening each document, you can see at a glance what decision was made, when, and who it went through.
Before you start
Your domain must have completed the Collavate MCP sign-up. Collavate MCP is currently offered as a beta to customer domains that have applied.
If you use ChatGPT with a company account, adding custom MCP servers may be restricted by your organization’s settings. If you don’t see the menu shown below, ask your company’s ChatGPT administrator to check.
Step 1: Open the plugin directory
Select Work at the top of ChatGPT, then click Plugins below the prompt box. Choose Connect plugins, then click Browse all plugins at the bottom of the list that opens on the right.
Step 2: Choose Add custom MCP server
On the Plugins page, click the Add button at the top right, then select Add custom MCP server.
Step 3: Enter the server details and add
In the Name field, enter Collavate as the name that will appear in your plugin list. Under Connection, with Server URL selected, enter the server URL below.
Icon and Description are optional, so you can leave them empty. Make sure Authentication shows OAuth, and leave Advanced OAuth settings as they are. Check “I understand and want to continue,” then click Create as a plugin. When the sign-in window opens, sign in with the company Google account you normally use for Collavate and follow the prompts to grant permissions.
Step 4: Confirm the connection
Click Plugins below the prompt box again, and Collavate will appear in the list. Select Collavate; when a check mark appears and Collavate shows in the prompt box, the connection is complete. You only need to add the plugin once.
Step 5: Ask your question
With Collavate shown in the prompt box, type your question after it and send. For example, type it the way you would normally say it, such as “Find the sales contract submitted by the sales team.”
Try asking
If this is your first time, start with the examples below.
- “Show me a list of the documents I approved this month”
- “Summarize the purchase request documents approved last week”
- “Check whether any contract-related documents are still pending approval”
ChatGPT finds and answers only within the Collavate permissions of the person who connected it. Documents you can’t access will never appear in its answers, so you can use it with confidence.
